Previous FBI Head James Comey Submits Innocent Plea to Allegations of Lying Congress

James Comey court appearance
He has maintained his clean record concerning the charges

Ex- FBI director James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to providing misleading information to congressional representatives and obstructing a legislative process.

The former director's lawyer submitted the plea representing him in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.

The defense lawyer declared he would try to have the case thrown out for several reasons including that his defendant, a detractor of Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

The former director was indicted just days after Trump pushed his attorney general to take action against him.

Legal Proceedings

In court on mid-week, the defense counsel Mr Fitzgerald informed the magistrate they intended to file various legal requests to dismiss the case before a trial, arguing the prosecution was spiteful and that a US attorney was improperly designated to handle the legal matter.

The former director's case was initially overseen by the original attorney, who resigned under pressure from Donald Trump after his investigation into an additional rival - NY AG Letitia James - did not succeed to bring criminal charges.

Legal Setting

The former director seemed in positive mood as he entered the legal venue on Wednesday, conversing with his attorneys and sharing humor. He was joined by his partner, Mrs Failor and child Maureen Comey, a government attorney who the former government terminated.

After listening to the court state his rights and the two counts against him in court on Wednesday, the defendant was asked if he grasped the charges.

"Yes your honour. Thank you," he stated to the court.

Previous Events

The former director was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from four years and was dismissed about several months into Trump's initial presidency as national leader. At the period, Mr Comey was directing an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any links between Russia and the election effort.

Throughout his leadership, Mr Comey sparked a backlash from liberal politicians when he announced just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was examining political contender Clinton's use of a private email server. Legal actions against the candidate were not pursued, causing criticism from conservative politicians as well.

Present Charges

Government attorneys assert James Comey gave untrue statements to the legislature during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being interrogated about both the previous examination as well as the Russia election probe. They claim he misled the legislative body by saying he had not authorized an individual at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to release to news outlets information about the government examinations.

Legal representatives also accuse James Comey of "improperly attempting to sway, obstruct and slow" the committee by providing untrue information to it.

Individual Responses

Via social media James Comey shared to his Instagram after he was accused, he said he was wrongly accused and accused Donald Trump of acting like a "autocrat".

"We have been aware for a long time that there are costs to opposing the former president," he said. "We choose not to live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he continued. "So let's have a legal proceeding."

These allegations against Mr Comey emerged after the former president posted on online platforms demanding his attorney general, Pam Bondi, charge the former director and additional individuals.
